Classical Liberalism as a Tradition Given the intellectual consistency of the four thinkers presented above, classical liberalism is indeed a tradition. Mises consistently positioned himself in the same tradition as Hume and Smith, although he also mentioned Ricardo, Bentham, and the Manchester School as sources of his liberalism.
